A0187 IDENTIFIED DECORATED WAR OF 1812 CHEESE BOX CANTEEN
War of 1812 identified militia cheese box canteen with hand painted decoration of an American flag and the initials of Andrew Roberts. The reverse has a 19th century label identifying the canteen as belonging to Robert Andrews, reading: Canteen used in the War of 1812 by Robert Andrews. Has wire sling loops and old cork stopper.
Canteen is is good condition consistent with age with some paint losses on the flag and toned label.

A0210 US NAVY BATTLE RATTLE
This battle or alarm rattle is marked "USN" and distinguishes it from the more common fire or police rattles. It is made from a turned section of oak fitted with brass plates on the bulbous end,

a single ratchet and finely turned handle. Inscribed in period ink reads: "1536/8" probably referring to number 8 of 1536 made. Certainly not all were US Navy rattles. Excellent condition. 8.75 inches long.
A0196 PRE-CIVIL WAR BATTLE RATTLE C.1845
Though not marked, we believe this battle alarm rattle is a U.S. Navy example as we have seen an identical one so marked "USN". It is an early form with bulbous head and single ratchet and wood spring. Fine original condition, 9 inches

This authentically mount double flue harpoon dates from the early 19th century and probably from Nantucket. The broad unmarked head and long narrow shank is characteristic of the early form of Arctic style irons.

The Water Celebration of 1848 inaugurated the opening of Boston's water supply from Cochituate Lake near Natick. A huge fountain spouted from the Boston Commons Frog Pond. 100 thousand people came by railroad and locally to the celebration. 10.75 x 14.25 in.
