A0300 BROADSIDE FOR THE STEAMBOAT RELIANCE 1855
This large framed multi-colored broadside dated 1855 advertises the steamer RELIANCE for sailings between Poughkeepsie and Albany on the Hudson River.
The RELIANCE was a new boat launched in 1854 for William W. & J. Reynolds Jr. It was the first boat built for the Reynolds firm.
At the start of the Civil War Reynolds volunteered the boat for use by the Union. She was armed as a gunboat and troop transport. She took part in the attack on Roanoke Island as part of Burnsides invasion of N. Carolina. She also supported the landings at Plymouth and New Bern.
Measures 17 3/8 x 12 inches (sight). Laid down, Has some margin tears.

A0261 PACKET SHIP COLUMBIA PHILADELPHIA BROADSIDE

Extremely rare, probably unique, large broadside advertising the voyage of the American packet ship COLUMBIA from Liverpool to Philadelphia, under Captain Rollins.
​
The COLUMBIA was built in 1846 by William H Webb for C. H. Marshall & Co. of the Black Ball Line. She was a large ship of 1050 tons. In 1847 Capt. Rathbone and 7 other crew were washed overboard and lost. The COLUMBIA lasted till 1887 registered in San Francisco.

Condition shows fading and toning overall with a small hole in the center. (See photos) 22 .25 x 17.5 inches

View shows the once bustling town with town square, flagpole in center surrounded by scattered buildings and animals. The town no longer exists.

Original uncolored aquatint engraving showing the Bounty in close up detail on left with Fletcher Christian standing atop the taffrail between two breadfruit trees with seaman armed with swords. Bligh standing in the launch as swords are being thrown to the officer. Text below the image describes Bounty expedition to obtain breadfruit and the subsequent mutiny. Painted and engraved by Robert Dodd 1790.
Fine condition: Professionally cleaned, with small repairs to margin folds and perforations. Trimmed with quarter inch margins. 45.5 x 59.6 cm.
